Dear Prime Minister,
We are writing to you, as well as 46 of your colleagues whose countries are members of The Council of Europe, with a request to reject the proposed Convention on Child Adoption.
On 7 May 2008, the Committee of Ministers supported the Draft Convention on Child Adoption in the Council of Europe which, on the international level, fundamentally extends the rights of homosexuals concerning child adoption in Europe.
We consider the Draft Convention to be dangerous for Europe. As a result of this Convention, the traditional family that is based upon marriage between a man and a woman will merely become one of the many alternative models which are considered ideal for the reception and upbringing of adopted children according to the Council of Europe. The result of this Convention would bring chaos into human relationships, both internationally and legally, and would serve as irresponsible experiments on children; as a consequence of which, children will be the ones to suffer most.
Although the Convention does not require the member countries of the Council of Europe to legalize adoptions by homosexuals, it does, in comparison to the original Convention as of 1967, presume and allow for adoptions by homosexual couples or other undefined sexual couples. In essence, it further degrades the traditional family, based by the marriage of a man and a woman, as a primary model of the environment most suitable for the upbringing of children in Europe. The Convention is open for signature for each member country of the Council of Europe beginning in November 2008.
In our opinion, homosexually-oriented people should be treated with honour and respect. At the same time, we believe that the international strengthening of the rights of homosexually-oriented people regarding child adoption is a bad decision that will have catastrophic consequences for such adopted children. Child adoption by homosexual couples is unsuitable, not because a homosexually-oriented person would be unable to love the child, but because a man and woman, in their role as father and mother, serve as natural and irreplaceable models and are necessary for the development and well-being of the child. This statement is based on the findings and viewpoints of renowned specialists from various scientific areas.
Due to the seriousness of the above-mentioned changes in the international Convention on Child Adoption, we ask you not to sign this Convention for your country. The hope and economic future of Europe lies in the support of the traditional family as the primary model for the environment most suitable for the upbringing of children.
Respectfully,
Mgr. Marek Nikolov (Chairman, Pastor bonus, civil association)
Mgr. Marcel Podolinský (Vice-Chairman, Pastor bonus, civil association)
